Former Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones didn’t hold back in a fiery discussion on the The Best People podcast, hosted by Nicolle Wallace.
The actress and comedian shocked listeners with her comments about ICE agents, suggesting that a change in Congress could bring a long-overdue reckoning.
A Candid Conversation About Politics
During the nearly hour-long episode, Jones and Wallace reflected on the current political climate, expressing disbelief and frustration over the chaos that emerged under Donald Trump’s administration.
“I don’t know. It just feels like the upside-down world,” Jones, 58, said early in the episode titled Leslie Jones GOES OFF on Trump’s “PIGGY” attack.
She elaborated on the need for accountability:
“You see somebody that’s doing something completely terrible… and we let them go because freedom of speech, of course, but there should be accountability.”
Wallace agreed. “Gravity,” she said. “Things should fall.”
Jones nodded. “You can’t continue to keep doing some wrong and not pay for it.”
Hoping for a Midterm Shake-Up
Wallace then asked how Jones sees this era ending.
The actress pinned her hopes on the upcoming midterm elections.
With Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress—53 of 100 Senate seats and 220 of 435 House seats—Jones emphasized the importance of voter turnout.
“I’m hoping, this is what I’m hoping, that midterms, people come out and vote like crazy to switch it over, and then the reckoning comes,” she said.
ICE Agents in the Spotlight
The conversation then turned sharply to immigration enforcement. Jones didn’t mince words.
“That’s why I want, all, everybody that work for ICE, I want them in jail.
I just want a reckoning. I want a reckoning,” she said. “Y’all know y’all did wrong stuff.
You know some of the stuff you did was so wrong. I need a reckoning.
Because that’s, to me, that’s the only thing that’s going to make it right.”
A History of Bold Statements
Jones has long been outspoken about her political beliefs.
She has openly criticized Trump and revealed shocking backstage thoughts during a 2015 SNL pre-show meal with the then-presidential candidate and his family.
“I remember turning to [co-star] Taran [Killam] and—I was just making a joke—Trump, Melania, [producer] Lindsay Shookus, Ivanka, and Jared were all there,” she told The Daily Beast.
“So I looked at Taran and I said, ‘If I kill this whole side of the table, maybe I’ll save the world.’”
Though said in jest, Jones reflected on it seriously later: “I always think back… was I supposed to do it?
I would’ve saved the world! I would be in jail, but I would’ve saved the world.”
Taking Aim at Trump and His Allies
Her criticism isn’t limited to that one anecdote.
While hosting The Daily Show in May, Jones took aim at the Trump administration and Elon Musk in a pointed tirade.
“I’ve got a problem with these Trump folks,” she said.
“My problem is these people are goofy-a** motherfkers.
I cannot believe America is going to be ended by these fking loser incels.”
What Lies Ahead
With the midterms approaching, Jones is hopeful that voters will take action, setting the stage for accountability she believes is long overdue.
For her, change at the ballot box could mean a national reckoning—not just for politicians, but for those enforcing the policies she finds most troubling.
