Kobbie Mainoo Faces Uncertain Future at Manchester United as Lack of Game Time Under Ruben Amorim Spurs Family Reaction on Social Media

Kobbie Mainoo’s sister, Ama Mainoo, has made her feelings known on social media following the shock departure of Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.

In a now-deleted Instagram story, she shared a picture of American rapper Yung Miami grinning widely — a playful, but pointed nod to the news.

The post seems to capture the sense of relief among United families who were frustrated with how Amorim handled the club’s young talent, particularly one of its brightest academy graduates.

Kobbie Mainoo’s Rise and Setback

Mainoo, 20, became a household name at Old Trafford after bursting onto the scene under Erik ten Hag in 2022.

The Stockport-born midfielder quickly turned heads, finishing the 2023–24 season with the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

He followed that up with a starring role for England, starting in the Euro 2024 final under Gareth Southgate.

However, Amorim’s arrival in October 2024 dramatically changed Mainoo’s trajectory.

The Portuguese manager often used Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role, leaving Mainoo sidelined and struggling to find minutes in his preferred midfield position.

Game Time Woes Stall Progress

Mainoo has yet to start a Premier League game this season.

With the 2025 World Cup approaching, his lack of game time has raised concerns about his international prospects.

Thomas Tuchel, who clearly rates the young midfielder, commented in August on the situation:

“Sometimes you can feel the pressure and changes in the club are not in your favour and he’s lacking the minutes.

I don’t think he lacks anything else. He has the experience, the power, the quality, the talent to be on our list.”

Frustration over limited opportunities has pushed Mainoo to explore a loan move, with Napoli reportedly leading the chase for a January deal.

Family Support Goes Public

Ama Mainoo has been a vocal supporter of her brother.

She has previously shared pictures of herself wearing his No 37 shirt, signaling pride and encouragement.

Public tensions escalated in December when Kobbie’s brother Jordan Mainoo-Hames appeared at Old Trafford wearing a T-shirt reading “Free Kobbie Mainoo”.

Amorim responded by addressing the wider issue of young players feeling entitled, clarifying that Kobbie would not be punished for his brother’s actions:

“It was not Kobbie who wore the T-shirt.

He is not going to start because of the T-shirt, or go to the bench because of it.

He is going to play if he is the right player to play.”

Amorim Blocks Loan Move Despite Player Frustration

Despite Mainoo’s desire for regular minutes elsewhere, Amorim reportedly told him he would not be allowed to leave on loan, insisting that he was the “future of Manchester United.”

Unfortunately, injuries compounded Mainoo’s problems.

He missed a chance to step in for the injured Bruno Fernandes last month due to a calf issue and has not been included in subsequent squads.

A New Era May Bring Fresh Opportunities

With United’s Under-18s head coach Darren Fletcher set to take over, a shift in tactics could open doors for Mainoo.

Fletcher is expected to implement a 4-3-3 system, which may give the young midfielder more opportunities to play regularly and regain momentum in his career.

For fans of the academy star, the upcoming weeks could mark a turning point after a frustrating period under Amorim.
