At least three people have been stabbed and injured in random attacks in Numedal in south-east Norway, local police said on Friday.

One of the victims was in critical condition, police added. The knifeman has now been arrested, local police said on Twitter.

Police were called to Fjordvegen in Numedal, Norway, early this morning to reports of an ‘ongoing life-threatening incident’.

Three air ambulance helicopters accompanied by two ambulances were reported to be at the scene.

Two witnesses told the TV 2 station that the attacks took place near a Joker shop close to a church.

Mayor Jan Gaute Bjerke in the Nore and Uvdal municipality told local media that the attack took place near a primary school.

‘The children were inside the school during the attack,’ he said.

‘I saw the ambulances and planes that came. Some have been stabbed and it is very serious and completely tragic,’ a store worker near the scene of the attacks told TV 2.
