When it comes to royal fortunes, King Charles III has quietly been building on a legacy that now surpasses even that of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the latest Sunday Times Rich List, the King’s personal wealth has jumped by £30 million over the past year, reaching a staggering £640 million.
This makes him twice as wealthy as the Queen was when she passed away in 2022.
Climbing the UK’s Wealth Rankings
At 76 years old, King Charles now ranks joint 238th among the UK’s 350 richest individuals and families—a notable rise from 258th place last year.
His fortune not only eclipses his mother’s but also outstrips other prominent names like David and Victoria Beckham, whose combined worth stands at about £500 million.
That puts Charles roughly £140 million ahead, making the former England football captain the richest sports star in Britain by comparison.
What Makes Up the King’s Personal Wealth?
The Sunday Times focuses exclusively on the King’s personal assets, separate from the vast Crown Estate and income from the Duchy of Lancaster, which fund his official duties.
However, calculating the exact value of the monarch’s fortune is tricky, as royal finances are famously private.
Still, some estimates are based on known holdings like Sandringham House in Norfolk—set on a sprawling 20,000-acre estate made up mostly of farms and rental properties—and Balmoral Castle in Scotland, which comes with around 50,000 acres of land.
Investments, Antiques, and More
Beyond real estate, the King is believed to hold a diverse portfolio that includes investments worth around £125 million, as well as prized possessions like antiques, jewelry, luxury cars, and horses.
In fact, the horses he inherited from the Queen alone are estimated to be worth about £27 million.
These personal assets are kept separate from his official revenues, which he is restricted from selling or using for profit.
Instead, those incomes support his public work as monarch and cover his personal living expenses.
Younger Stars Also Making Waves on the Rich List
The list also shines a spotlight on younger wealth creators.
Pop sensation Dua Lipa, at just 29, is the youngest star on the under-40s rich list, with a fortune estimated at £115 million.
She ranks 34th on that list, trailing behind fellow musician Ed Sheeran, who sits at 13th with £370 million.
Royal Finances Remain Closely Guarded
Despite these estimates, Buckingham Palace has not commented on the figures, and the full picture of the King’s personal wealth remains largely a mystery—reflecting the general privacy surrounding the Royal Family’s finances.
