Kevin Bacon, 67, was visibly emotional as he remembered filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele following the tragic double homicide over the weekend.
The Footloose star shared a moving Instagram post on Monday, reflecting on both his professional connection and personal friendship with the couple.
Bacon recalled the profound impact of working with Reiner on the 1992 courtroom drama A Few Good Men.
“Rob Reiner gave me a job in A Few Good Men,” he wrote.
“I was over the moon because, as people may know, This Is Spinal Tap is my all-time favorite movie.”
Memories of a Meaningful Collaboration
Beyond the work itself, Bacon highlighted Reiner’s leadership on set.
“He set a tone where people could work hard but also enjoy themselves,” Bacon said.
For him, the experience became one of the most meaningful of his career.
A Few Good Men, featuring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Jack Nicholson, and Kiefer Sutherland, went on to receive four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
Bacon also spoke fondly of daily lunches with the Reiners, describing them as magical moments he had never experienced before or since.
“He and Michele would be there, Kyra would visit… it was a wonderful time,” he said.
Demi Moore Reflects on a Lifelong Bond
Demi Moore, who played Lieutenant Commander Joanne Galloway in the film, shared her own tribute on Instagram.
She described the couple’s influence on her life both personally and professionally.
“Our kids grew up together, we worked together, and our lives intertwined,” Moore wrote.
She praised the Reiners as “amazing people and wonderful parents who gave of themselves to make the world a better place.”
Moore accompanied her post with throwback images from the A Few Good Men set and a photo of the couple at the 1989 premiere of When Harry Met Sally.
Kiefer Sutherland Remembers His Mentor
Kiefer Sutherland, also a cast member of A Few Good Men, expressed gratitude for Reiner’s guidance early in his career.
“Rob was one of the kindest gentlemen I’ve ever worked with… he gave me an opportunity that changed my life, and I will forever be grateful,” Sutherland said.
Family Tragedy and Investigation
Authorities confirmed that Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered deceased by their daughter, Romy.
Their son Nick has been arrested and is facing federal murder charges; he is currently being held without bail.
Police have not released additional details about the investigation.
Romy reportedly warned law enforcement prior to the arrest that a family member should be considered a suspect, describing the individual as “dangerous.”
Witnesses allege that a confrontation occurred at a holiday party attended by the family, involving Nick.
Nick Reiner’s Past Struggles
Nick Reiner has openly discussed long-term struggles with substance abuse and mental health.
In a 2016 interview with People, he recounted periods of homelessness across several states. “It was not fun,” he admitted.
Rob and Michele had previously expressed regret about how they handled his addiction.
Rob noted that they often relied on professionals instead of listening directly to Nick, while Michele acknowledged that warnings about his manipulative behavior were sometimes ignored.
After Nick achieved sobriety, he collaborated with his father on the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which explored addiction and family dynamics.
Rob described the project as a chance to apologize both on screen and in real life for past mistakes.
Family Requests Privacy
In response to the tragedy, the Reiner family released a statement asking for privacy.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” they said.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The couple were last seen publicly in September at the premiere of Spinal Tap 2, which Reiner directed and co-wrote—one of their final appearances together.
