Kenyan Police shoot dead member of ‘Katombi’ gang terrorizing Mathare residents

During a bungled robbery, police shot and killed a member of a gang that has been harassing residents of Nairobi’s Mathare slums.
“Fadhili Mgaza, in the company of an accomplice, took a mobile phone from a pedestrian and attempted to flee with it, resulting in a chase,” according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Another member of the dreaded ‘Katombi’ gang, which has been terrorizing local residents, was shot and killed by authorities on patrol last evening.”
“A shootout ensued between the thug known locally as ‘Fadhili Mgaza’ and officers,” the DCI added.
Fadhili was one of four gangsters who fled a firefight in Mathare last December, when their de-facto boss, identified as Ngaruiya, was killed, according to the agency.
“Immediately Fadhili spotted the officers, he shot at them as the bike sped towards the informal settlement. But the cops led by a senior constable who is a former musketry instructor,” it said.
