Katsina police arrest man with 32 litres of petrol concealed in travelling bag

Abdulkareem Muhammed, 37, was detained with 32 litres of fuel concealed in three polythene bags and a travel bag by the Katsina State Police Command.

SP Gambo Isah, the command’s spokesman, who paraded the suspect in front of reporters at the Command Headquarters on Tuesday, said he was apprehended by officers on patrol along the Katsina-Jibiya route. According to the PPRO, the suspect appeared to be traveling with clothes in a travel bag he was carrying, but officers uncovered three polythene bags holding 32 litres of gasoline during an inspection.

SP Isah said the feat is in continuation of the enforcement of the security challenges containment order, banning sales of petrol in Jerry cans and polythene bags.
He added that more suspects who took the routes of Katsina – Jibiya road to smuggle petrol to bandits in the forests have been arrested and are being charged to court.
The suspect however denied that the products were meant for bandits, but for resale in his village. He further pleaded for mercy and promised to stop if let off the hook.
