Kathryn Ruemmler Faces Renewed Scrutiny as Goldman Sachs Chief Legal Officer Appears in Jeffrey Epstein Emails from the United States

Kathryn Ruemmler, a prominent attorney who once served as White House counsel under President Barack Obama, has reappeared in newly released emails connected to Jeffrey Epstein.

These messages, which span from 2014 to 2015, show Ruemmler referring to the convicted financier in unusually warm terms, calling him like “another older brother.”

Ruemmler’s name has appeared before in documents related to Epstein, who pleaded guilty to procuring a child for prostitution in 2008 and served 13 months in jail.

The recent emails shed light on her continued contact with Epstein years after his release.

Christmas 2015: Travel Plans on Epstein’s Dime

In one striking exchange from December 25 and 26, 2015, Ruemmler corresponded with a redacted associate about arranging a European trip charged to Epstein’s credit card.

When asked if the arrangements needed to happen on Christmas Day, Ruemmler replied, “Merry Christmas! No, no, no – I am so sorry for the intrusion.

Please enjoy the day. Jeffrey is just being wonderful Jeffrey.”

The following day, she sent her frequent-flyer details and preferred route to Geneva, unsure of her return date.

When the associate remarked that Epstein was “so very kind,” Ruemmler agreed enthusiastically.

She later added, “Well, I adore him. It’s like having another older brother,” after Epstein reportedly described her as “a very good friend.”

Epstein’s Input on Legal Aspirations

Another email from October 2014 revealed Ruemmler seeking Epstein’s advice on a draft statement she was preparing for consideration as U.S. Attorney General.

These interactions occurred roughly around the time Ruemmler left the Obama White House.

Despite these connections, Ruemmler and her former law firm, Latham and Watkins, maintain that Epstein was never a client and that she regrets having known him.

High-Profile Connections and Conversations

Epstein’s emails also reveal the circles he moved in.

In a September 2014 correspondence, he suggested Ruemmler contact “boss,” then discussed meetings with figures including Peter Thiel, Larry Summers, Gordon Brown, Leon Black, and attendees of a climate summit.

Some emails even hinted at risks tied to professional, financial, and personal matters, with Epstein warning, “Girls? Careful I will renew an old habit.”

Other messages from 2017 show Ruemmler disparaging former President Donald Trump, describing him as “so gross” and “worse in real life and up close.”

Goldman Sachs Stands by Chief Legal Officer

Ruemmler currently serves as the chief legal officer at Goldman Sachs, the bank’s top female executive and chair of its conduct committee.

Despite the media scrutiny, the bank has defended her, saying she proactively disclosed her prior associations, including Epstein, before joining the firm.

A spokesperson emphasized, “Kathy is an excellent general counsel and we benefit from her advice every day.

Nobody involved in her hiring had concerns about her prior legal work.”

DOJ and Congressional Releases Add Context

The Department of Justice recently released more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images related to Epstein, adding to the millions of pages of case files already made public.

Congressional Democrats have said this is only a portion of the materials they are seeking.

The releases follow the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law last November, which requires full disclosure of records related to Epstein and his associates, including Ghislaine Maxwell.

Epstein, whose crimes and connections remain under intense scrutiny, was found dead in a New York jail cell in August 2019, a month after federal sex trafficking charges were brought against him.
