aluleka shook the football fraternity after declining a new Amakhosi contract before signing a new deal with Sundowns last season. The Tembisa-born player was soon forgotten though, as he nearly spent the entire season on the fringes of Sundowns’ squad.

But things changes in football. The story took a major turn last month when the central midfielder earned a surprise start before heading in a goal against Al Merrikh in the CAF Champions League.

Speaking on the event on Thursday, the former Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United star revealed that it was all very emotional than we all imagined.

“I just wanted to be on that field, nothing more,” the player who is known as ‘Mido’ told Robert Warawa.

“That is why I said, you feel some type of way when you are playing. Uyazi ukuthi, ‘where I am helping….’”

“When I scored that goal, I was like ‘why’”? All I wanted to do was to play. And then I scored. I will tell people I meant it [the goal] but I was just trying to block.“

“The ball came to me, I headed the ball, it went into the net. I did not even celebrate. I did not understand. Mina ngingumuntu womoya, very spiritual,” he added.

“I did not celebrate. I felt that if I celebrate, I am going to do something wrong here. For some reason, I don’t know why. But I just had to keep my cool

“It hit me so deeply… you know I even… I cried a little bit, after that goal. Because I scored that goal I was able to be myself again.

“This is my first game in a while and then I score,“ the former Kaizer Chiefs star added.
