Daniel Cardoso, a former defender for Kaizer Chiefs, has offered some guidance to Naturena’s horde of recent hires.

Cardoso has cautioned the incoming class not to be dazzled by the lights because for many of the players, this will mean a raise in pay and a move to the big city.

Although Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made an effort to avoid bringing in troublemakers or bad boys, they have already discovered that players can misbehave when placed in the Naturena pressure cooker.

In a conversation with KickOff, Cardoso suggested, “I would say they need to be focused and humble.

Do what needs to be done, and keep your attention on the football. Leave the excessive drinking and partying out of it.

You can have a fantastic and lengthy career if you just concentrate on your football. Being there is a terrific experience.

As alcohol and football don’t mix, Cardoso has counselled prospective players to maintain sober lifestyles.

“I believe the biggest setback during the seven years I was there… Cardoso said to Marawa Sports Worldwide, “I have seen players brought in and released within six months to a year [because they were not the perfect fit].

“The quality of signings that come to Chiefs can vary sometimes. You may bring in free agents or players from the NFD (National First Division).

Even if they are really passionate about their sport, some athletes only care about their paycheck.

“And the field is where you can see it. You can tell who wants to play by observing how some athletes simply show up drunk at practise.

In the years I was there, I think that was the biggest impact [issue] we faced at Chiefs.
