Kaizer Chiefs Prepare to Part Ways with Over Five Players as Part of Squad Reshuffling in 2024 Gauteng Season

Kaizer Chiefs is expected to part ways with over five players by the end of the 2024/25 season as they continue to rebuild and strengthen their squad.

After a promising start under the leadership of new head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the club is focusing on improving further to stay competitive, especially against top contenders like Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Despite having made significant progress, Nabi believes the team still needs quality additions to enhance their chances.

New Signings and Team Reshuffling

At the beginning of the 2024/25 season, Kaizer Chiefs made a bold move by appointing Nabi as their head coach along with a new technical team.

This led to a series of new signings, with seven players joining the club before the season kicked off.

Since then, the team has shown improvements compared to last season, but Nabi believes there’s still room for more quality players in the squad.

To this end, they made three additional signings during the January transfer window, bringing the total to ten for the season.

Expected Player Departures

With these new signings and changes, some players are likely to leave the club by the end of the season. Here’s a look at five players who could be on their way out of Kaizer Chiefs:

1. Edson Castillo

The South American midfielder has struggled with injuries this season and with his contract set to expire in June, it’s doubtful that the club will renew it.

The recent signing of Thabo Cele only adds to the uncertainty of Castillo’s future at Amakhosi.

2. Mduduzi Mdantsane

Mdantsane, who has been loaned to Richards Bay for six months, hasn’t had much of an impact at Kaizer Chiefs.

With limited game time this season, it’s likely he’ll be released once his loan deal is up.

3. Reeve Frosler

Right-back Reeve Frosler has not been a top choice for Coach Nabi this season.

The coach has rotated between multiple players at right back, including moving Njabulo Blom from midfield to fill the position.

Frosler has mostly been left out of the starting lineup, making his future with the club uncertain.

4. Yusuf Maart

Despite being handed the captaincy this season, midfielder Yusuf Maart has struggled to impress.

His performances have been underwhelming, and he has been seen as a liability in midfield.

It’s possible that the club may let him go at the end of the season.

5. Edmilson Dove

Dove, the Mozambican international, has also been on the radar for a potential exit.

After sustaining an injury during pre-season, his chances of securing a starting spot have diminished, especially with the left-back position being a weak area for Kaizer Chiefs.

However, if he recovers well, he may still have a chance to revive his career at the club.

Looking Ahead to the Soweto Derby

As Kaizer Chiefs continue to make these decisions, the focus shifts to their upcoming match against Orlando Pirates in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby this weekend.

The game will be crucial in setting the tone for the second half of the season, and it could play a significant role in shaping the team’s direction moving forward.
