Kaizer Chiefs: Gavin Hunt names FIVE Amakhosi youngsters who’ll go far

Gavin Hunt’s short-lived time at Amakhosi was marked by a string of young players making their senior team debuts.

The former Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United, and Bidvest Wits coach has been around long enough to know a good young man when he sees one.

During a recent chat about his time at Kaizer Chiefs, Hunt was simply asked to name the young players at Amakkhosi he believes we’ll go far in the game.

“I think [Njabulo] Blom will go further because of his athleticism,” Hunt said via DiskiTalk with Luyolo.

“I think because of his strength, and he can play. He’s the type of player who’ll be a shoe-in every week (Gavin claps his fist and hand).

“By that I mean you will pick him and start picking the other ones.”

Hunt, who is currently unemployed since leaving Chippa United earlier this season, added to name a few more players who have since moved away from the club.

He named Darrel Matsheke (loaned to Uthongathi), Lebogang Lesako (loaned to Pretoria Callies), Thabo Mokoena, and Thabang Molefe.

“But there was others ones who faded since I left. There was a boy Darrel [Matsheke], there was [Lebohang] Lesako, the winger.

“Another one was a left-footer at centre back… he plays in the Diski [DStv Diski Challege], can’t remember his name now…

“Thabo Mokoena” said the host Luyolo. “Ya,” said Gavin.

“So there were decent ones, the goalkeeper is not bad [Thabo Molefe], I just felt they need a little bit better,” the former Kaizer Chiefs coached added.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi’s Director of Football Kaizer Motaung Junior recently revealed the club’s new commitment to reduce the average age in the first team squad.
