As 2025 kicks off, Kaizer Chiefs are actively seeking to strengthen their attacking line.
With the January transfer window open, the club is on the hunt for a goal scorer to give their forward line a much-needed boost.
Del Campo and European Pursuits
In their search, Chiefs have reportedly cast their net as far as Europe.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the club had entered discussions to sign Swiss youth international, Ruben del Campo.
The potential move is made all the more enticing as del Campo would join the Chiefs as a free agent, following his release from his previous club in Canada.
However, according to new reports, Chiefs are not stopping there and have set their sights on another striker.
A New Option: Jonathan Sowah
It seems that the club has been offered the opportunity to sign Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah.
Chiefs are apparently seriously considering the deal as they continue their search for a goal-scoring solution.
A source revealed to Soccer-Laduma that while the club remains uncertain about which striker they’ll secure, they are keeping an eye on Sowah as a potential addition.
“They’re in the process of evaluating several strikers,” the source said.
“The club is prioritizing a new signing based on the coach’s requirements.
Some of the top options are beyond their financial reach, which is why they’re exploring other alternatives.
Jonathan Sowah is currently one of the players on their radar.”
Why Sowah?
The source further explained that the club’s scouts have recommended Sowah because of his ability to finish chances, an area where Chiefs have been struggling.
Despite creating plenty of opportunities, the team has faced difficulties converting them into goals.
Sowah’s potential to address this issue makes him an appealing choice for Chiefs.
Is Sowah the Right Fit?
Sowah currently plays for Al Nasr Benghazi in the Libyan top flight, with his contract set to expire in December.
This means that if Chiefs are to secure his services, they would need to negotiate a transfer fee.
As a Black Stars international, Sowah has already made his debut for Ghana in 2023.
