Kaizer Chiefs recently celebrated a milestone—55 years of existence—and they got a perfect gift from one of their rising stars, Wandile Duba.
The young wonderkid ensured that Stellenbosch FC wouldn’t ruin the celebrations during their Betway fixture earlier this week.
Duba’s Brace Shines Against Stellenbosch
Duba played a crucial role in helping Kaizer Chiefs secure a much-needed victory.
With his two goals, he helped Amakhosi climb to fifth place, pushing Stellenbosch out of that spot.
The Glamour Boys made a strong comeback, beating Stellenbosch 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening after going down 1-0.
Despite controlling the game early on, Chiefs missed a few opportunities, including a glaring miss by Bradley Cross.
However, they were punished in the 20th minute when Khomotjo Lekolone scored after receiving a pass from Devin Titus.
Kaizer Chiefs didn’t back down and equalized in the 30th minute.
Duba scored from a header pass by Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.
The team’s head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, made impactful changes by bringing in Mfundo Vilakazi and Tebogo Potsane, and the effects were felt just 12 minutes into the second half.
Celebrating Victory and Progress
Duba’s second goal came in the 57th minute, when he finished off a well-timed pass from Vilakazi to put Chiefs ahead.
This victory placed them fifth on the log, with 18 points from 12 matches, especially after a recent 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City.
Fans were overjoyed with the win, and the celebration of the 55th anniversary felt complete with the team’s performance.
Though Kaizer Chiefs have faced some challenges this season, their resilient spirit and positive play have kept fans hopeful.
Kaizer Chiefs Reflect on 55 Years
Dr. Kaizer Motaung, the club’s owner, spoke about the club’s journey over the last 55 years, acknowledging the highs and lows they’ve experienced. “F
ootball, like life, is filled with ups and downs,” he said.
“Yet it is during those tough times that we have learned the most.
Our ability to adapt, innovate, and overcome obstacles has strengthened our resolve and united us as a club.”
As Kaizer Chiefs continue to push forward, this victory served as a timely reminder of their commitment to overcoming challenges and staying united.
