Kaduna govt empowers women, youths on rice production

The Acting Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Balarabe has identified food insecurity as a global problem threatening the security and social wellbeing of many societies.

 
She stated in an address at the launching of training and empowerment of women and youth groups on improved rice parboiling techniques in Kaduna State.

 
According to her, the importation and exportation of farm produces globally is no longer convenient as a result of inequality and economic demand.

 
She noted that agriculture remains the major focus in solving the problems of food insecurity everywhere, describing food production as a center of security architecture.

 
“We are all aware that without food security, our country will be exposed to serious threat.

The rate of hunger and poverty will increase and that of exploitation by different entity will grow larger with citizens losing faith in government and these will increase the rate of criminality”, she explained.

 
She revealed further that five women and youth groups from each local government area in the state will benefit from the program and also urged them to make judicious use of the starter packs that will be given to them, emphasing that government will not take it lightly on any of them who misuses the opportunity.

 
Hadiza stressed that empowering women and youth groups will help in building a better tomorrow that will elevate their standard of living.

 
The training and empowerment of women and youth groups on improved rice parboiling techniques in Kaduna State was organised by the State Ministry for Local Government Affairs in Collaboration with Sasakawa Africa Association/AGRA Kaduna Consortium Project.

 
The Commissioner Ministry for Local Government Affairs, Shehu Muhammad explained that the program targeted two hundred and seventy farmers across the state.

 
Muhammad who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abubakar Umar assured that the project will improve rice production in the country
