Basketball fans watching Sunday night’s Knicks vs. Magic game got more than just clutch plays—they got an unexpected dose of cuteness.
Knicks center Mitchell Robinson unintentionally became the babysitter of the evening when teammate Josh Hart had to rush back onto the court in the final seconds.
The Game Tightens
With under a minute to go, the Knicks were cruising with a comfortable 10-point lead over Orlando.
But a missed free throw by Jonathan Isaac and a quick putback by Noah Penda cut the lead to 106-99, forcing Knicks coach Mike Brown to put Hart back in the action with just 19.1 seconds left.
Robinson’s Unexpected Duty
Hart, who was relaxing on the bench with one of his twin sons on his lap, had no idea he would be called back so suddenly.
In the scramble, he handed the toddler to Mitchell Robinson, who was seated nearby.
Cameras caught a very bewildered Robinson trying to process the situation before passing the child to a nearby babysitter, much to the amusement of everyone in the arena.
A Lighthearted Moment on the Bench
The moment provided a hilarious break from the tension of the game.
Knicks announcer Mike Breen joked, “Twins gonna need a babysitter on the bench,” while Knicks legend and color commentator Walt Frazier simply said, “There she is.”
Fans and teammates alike shared laughs at the unexpected scene.
Social Media Reacts
Hart, who scored 17 points in the win, seemed to enjoy seeing his sons on television.
He later shared fan reactions and comments on social media.
One Knicks blogger wrote, “Mitch is like ‘I didn’t sign up to babysit,’” while fellow Knicks star Mikal Bridges added a string of laughing emojis.
Hart’s wife, Shannon, also shared funny reactions on Instagram, though she wasn’t pictured during the incident.
Hart’s Family Story
Hart and his high school sweetheart Shannon tied the knot in 2021, welcoming their twin sons two years later.
The moment on Sunday echoed a similar life event in 2023 when Hart was preparing for a playoff game and had to witness his sons’ birth via video call before taking the court against the Miami Heat, scoring 11 points in a loss.
Closing the Game
Despite the brief distraction, the Knicks held off Orlando’s late surge to secure a 106-100 victory, and the twins were quickly reunited with their parents at the end of the bench.
Fans got both basketball drama and a heartwarming moment all in one evening.
