Joe Biden’s Retreat in Santa Ynez Valley
After Donald Trump took office, Joe Biden didn’t waste any time heading to one of his favorite spots.
In fact, it seems like this serene destination might just be where he plans to settle into retirement.
Not long after Trump’s inauguration, President Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, made their way from Washington, D.C., to the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley in California.
The couple, departing from Joint Base Andrews, sought some well-needed rest in a place that offers a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the nation’s capital.
Curious onlookers in Santa Barbara flocked to the airport to catch a glimpse of their arrival, which was confirmed with a “no-fly notice” over Vandenberg, California.
Could the Bidens Be Planting Roots in Santa Ynez?
According to Shelby Sim, the President and CEO of Visit the Santa Ynez Valley, there’s a chance that Joe and Jill Biden are looking to make the valley their permanent home once they leave the White House.
Sim noted that the Bidens had visited last summer, marking this trip as their second visit in less than a year. Rumors have been circulating that Biden might even be considering buying property in the area.
However, Sim emphasized that this particular visit is all about relaxation and escaping the fast-paced life of Washington, D.C. The Santa Ynez Valley offers the Bidens a quiet, traffic-free retreat with a charming, country feel.
Although the couple hasn’t revealed their post-White House living plans, they do own two homes in Delaware, one in Rehoboth Beach and another in Wilmington.
A Friend in the Valley: Joe Kiani’s Influence
The Bidens’ connection to the Santa Ynez Valley goes beyond just visiting.
They share a close friendship with Joe Kiani, a Democratic donor and philanthropist who’s made a name for himself in the medical tech industry.
Kiani, who founded Masimo in 1989, is worth an estimated $1.3 billion.
His expansive 8,000-acre ranch and vineyard in the Figueroa Highlands has served as a peaceful getaway for the Bidens, especially during challenging times.
During this recent visit, though Biden’s official schedule didn’t mention his accommodation plans, local reports spotted a motorcade headed towards Kiani’s estate shortly after his arrival. In fact, the Bidens have visited Kiani’s property before, especially during significant moments in Biden’s political career.
This included Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 race and endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
Santa Ynez: A Perfect Getaway
The Santa Ynez Valley is located about two hours north of Los Angeles and is known for its stunning rolling hills, world-class wineries, and a range of outdoor activities, from hiking to zip-lining and horseback riding.
It offers a tranquil escape with six charming towns, including Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Buellton, and the Danish-inspired village of Solvang.
In recent years, the valley has seen a surge in new developments, such as the luxurious Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, now a five-star Auberge Resorts property.
The area’s dining scene is also thriving, with several exciting new restaurants set to open.
Beyond the town life, nature lovers can explore the Los Padres National Forest, Sedgwick Reserve, and Figueroa Mountain, which blooms with vibrant wildflowers in the spring.
The valley has long been a favorite of celebrities.
Olivia Newton-John once owned a ranch here, which is currently listed for $9 million.
The infamous Neverland Ranch, once owned by Michael Jackson, was also located nearby.
With its stunning scenery and peaceful atmosphere, the Santa Ynez Valley continues to be an ideal retreat for those seeking both relaxation and a touch of luxury.
And for the Bidens, it might just be the perfect place to enjoy their post-presidential years.F
