Both women, who have navigated their own painful battles with cancer, found themselves sharing a deeply personal exchange long after the curtain fell.
William and Catherine, both 43, attended this year’s Royal Variety Performance together, returning to the event for the first time since the princess announced she was in remission earlier this year.
After the show, the royal couple made their rounds greeting performers—and that’s when the emotional meeting with Jessie unfolded.
Two Women Connected by a Shared Battle
Jessie, 37, didn’t hesitate to break the usual formality expected when meeting a royal.
She gently placed a hand on Catherine’s shoulder and embraced her, explaining quietly, “I just had breast cancer… cancer really puts life into perspective.”
The princess, who revealed in January she was recovering from treatment for an undisclosed form of the disease, listened closely as Jessie described the shock that hits when you hear the diagnosis for the first time.
Jessie had performed her new song, I’ll Never Know Why, written in memory of her former bodyguard who died by suicide in 2021.

After canceling her tour to prepare for a second surgery, she was told by doctors the procedure had to be postponed.
Despite catching the cancer early, she underwent a full mastectomy due to the size of the lump, avoiding chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
In a recent interview, she admitted she “sobbed” while looking at her scars, overwhelmed by the emotional reality of it all.
Her mother comforted her in a moment Jessie described as heartbreaking but grounding.
Though she has been given the all-clear, Jessie explained she still faces more surgery to adjust the symmetry of her reconstruction and needs time to heal—physically and emotionally.
Her two-year-old son, Sky, she said, has kept her grounded and hopeful throughout everything.
A Rare Evening Out for the Waleses
The evening was also a special outing for William and Catherine as a couple.
She stepped out in a deep green velvet gown believed to be from Talbot Runhof, accessorizing with the Greville chandelier earrings once loved by Queen Elizabeth II.
William wore classic black tie for the occasion.
