Jennifer Garner is finally speaking out about her split from Ben Affleck, a chapter of her life she has mostly kept private. The actors were married for 13 years, from 2005 to 2018, and share three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.
In a recent feature for Marie Claire UK’s Wellness Issue, the 53-year-old actress reflected on how difficult it was to navigate the end of her marriage. Garner, originally from West Virginia, described the emotional toll in straightforward terms.
“The hardest part was the breaking up of a family,” she said. “Losing a true partnership and friendship—it’s that loss that really hits you.”
Healing Takes Time
Despite the challenges, Garner emphasized that healing is possible. She encouraged women facing similar struggles to give themselves space to recover.
“Time is the opportunity to heal,” she explained. “Even when you feel like you’ll never be friends with someone again, that feeling can change. Life moves forward.”
In recent years, Garner and Affleck have managed to maintain a friendly relationship, primarily for the sake of co-parenting their children.
Navigating the Spotlight and Gossip
Affleck later married Jennifer Lopez, creating a media frenzy that some dubbed the “Jennifer-Ben-Jen” saga. Lopez also has twins, Max and Emme, from her previous marriage to Marc Anthony. Though tabloids ran wild for a while, Garner prefers to stay out of the gossip spotlight.
“It doesn’t serve me to take in gossip about myself or anyone else, much less my kids,” she said. “So I don’t do it.”
The actress has made it clear that her focus remains on her children and those closest to her.
Family First, Career Second
Balancing a Hollywood career with motherhood has never been easy, but Garner says she has always prioritized her children without regret.
“It never felt like a sacrifice. Going to work was hard, and it shaped the roles I chose,” she admitted. “But what matters most is the people in your life—the ones who carry you through tough times.”
Garner’s perspective reflects a broader truth often seen among working parents in the spotlight: resilience comes from relationships, not accolades.
Fitness Reimagined
The star didn’t hold back when discussing her approach to health and fitness. After years of intense training, Garner realized she needed a change.
“I pursued strength and stamina at the expense of mobility,” she admitted. “Now I’m bringing yoga back into my routine. Sometimes you have to back up to move forward.”
Her commitment to wellness was evident in a striking photo shoot by Nino Munoz, where she appeared toned and radiant.
Promoting “The Last Thing He Told Me”
Garner’s candid conversation also coincided with the promotion of the second season of Apple TV+’s thriller, The Last Thing He Told Me.
The series has been praised for its suspenseful storytelling and Garner’s compelling performance, showcasing her ability to balance intense dramatic roles with her real-life responsibilities as a mother.
Staying Grounded
Through heartbreak, media scrutiny, and the demands of Hollywood, Jennifer Garner continues to prioritize what truly matters: her children, her close relationships, and her personal well-being.
Her story is a reminder that even amid fame and challenges, grounding yourself in family and self-care can create a meaningful, fulfilling life.
