Ahead of PSV Eindhoven’s highly anticipated Champions League matchup with Arsenal, former Spurs player Ivan Perisic has shared his thoughts on the Gunners’ weaknesses and PSV’s chances of pulling off an upset.
Perisic Reflects on Arsenal’s Potential Weaknesses
Despite Arsenal’s impressive form under Mikel Arteta, Perisic feels that the Gunners are still missing something crucial to their ability to win major trophies.
Perisic, who previously spent time at Tottenham, discussed the upcoming clash with Arsenal, stating that although they are a strong and youthful team with a talented manager, they have consistently struggled to take that final step and achieve success.
“They’re a really good team, a young team, with a great coach.
But over the past few years, they’ve always been missing something that could help them step up and win something,” Perisic remarked.
He emphasized that PSV has a strong chance if they remain fully prepared, insisting that the team needs to give their absolute best to overcome Arsenal’s challenge.
PSV’s Strengths and Challenges Heading into the Match
PSV, despite some recent struggles in the Eredivisie, have shown strong performances in European competitions, including victories over Liverpool and Juventus in the Champions League.
However, their league form has been less consistent, with a recent loss to Go Ahead Eagles adding to their tally of four league defeats this season.
While PSV’s defense has been shaky, as evidenced by the goals they’ve conceded in their last few Eredivisie matches, manager Peter Bosz has made it clear that he will not change the team’s aggressive approach for the game against Arsenal.
Bosz is confident that pressuring the ball and attacking quickly are key to his team’s success.
“I already indicated last year that defending starts with attacking,” he said, explaining that by winning the ball back quickly, PSV can avoid having to defend too much.
PSV’s Focus on Small Details
Bosz also discussed how PSV has been working on improving small details that could make a big difference in their performances.
While acknowledging the challenges in defense, he is committed to maintaining the team’s attacking style, believing that it is crucial for success. “Football is a complex sport,” Bosz continued.
“It is a combination of many factors that have to come together well. It is often small details that prevent us from winning matches.
We are working intensively to improve those details.”
With both teams gearing up for what promises to be an exciting Champions League clash, the stakes are high for PSV, who will look to prove themselves against one of Europe’s top sides.
The game will take place at the Philips Stadion on Tuesday night, and Perisic believes his team has the potential to surprise Arsenal if they deliver their best performance.
