IPOB lawyer urges South-East residents to ignore fraudulent sit-at-home order circulating online ahead of Monday February 2

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has come out strongly against a recently circulated sit-at-home order supposedly scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026.

Lead counsel for the group, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, described the directive as fake and fraudulent, urging Igbo communities to continue their normal routines without fear.

The Alleged Order That Sparked Confusion

Earlier this week, a statement claiming to be from IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, made the rounds online.

It declared a “Biafra-Wide Solidarity Lockdown” in support of Onitsha traders and demanded the immediate release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The statement also suggested that all economic activities across Igboland would come to a halt on Monday.

The announcement appeared to be a direct challenge to Governor Charles Soludo’s order for traders in Anambra State to resume their Monday trading.

Naturally, this caused concern among residents and business owners across the South-East.

Ejiofor Steps In to Clear the Air

Reacting to the situation, Ejiofor released a statement on Saturday condemning the directive.

He called the circulated message “a calculated falsehood” and said it was clearly not sanctioned by IPOB leadership.

“Late yesterday, a report was widely circulated alleging a total lockdown of Ala-Igbo under the guise of a sit-at-home directive,” Ejiofor said.

“Let it be stated clearly: this directive is fake, a phantom, a deliberate attempt to mislead our people.”

Platform Hijacked by Malicious Actors

According to Ejiofor, the so-called “Emma Powerful” platform has been compromised by groups that profit from fear, disruption, and chaos.

He emphasized that IPOB is committed to peace and has formally disowned the fake publication.

Residents are being reassured that there is no official sit-at-home order for Monday.

“The peaceful global movement of IPOB categorically distances itself from this fabricated directive,” Ejiofor explained.

“We urge Ndi-Igbo to go about their lawful and normal activities without hesitation.”

A Call for Vigilance and Awareness

Ejiofor also highlighted the dangers of circulating false information.

Fake directives, he said, can “reopen wounds” and create opportunities for violent actors to exploit communities.

He warned that platforms like the corrupted “Emma Powerful” should now be viewed with suspicion.

“The time has come for greater clarity and firmness,” he added.

“This platform, in its current state, acts against Ala-Igbo’s peace, progress, and collective well-being.”

Residents Advised to Focus on Normal Life

With Ejiofor’s statement, IPOB hopes to restore calm and prevent unnecessary disruption.

Communities across the South-East are encouraged to ignore the fake sit-at-home order, focus on their businesses, and continue with daily activities as usual.

For residents concerned about the situation, the official message is simple: no lockdown is in effect, and no action from IPOB leadership supports this claim.
