The teen’s family asserts that Dagny, who identified as non-binary, had been a target of bullying for being transgender. The confrontation escalated to a physical fight in the bathroom.

Dagny succumbed to the injuries in the hospital on February 8. Her mother, Sue Benedict, spoke at a funeral service, describing Dagny as a straight-A student, animal lover, and talented cook.

She conveyed her deep love for her child, emphasizing that Dagny, despite being tough, was an exceptional individual.

Police Investigation and Pending Autopsy Results

Police involvement in the case began when no 911 call was made by the school, and authorities were later summoned to the hospital on February 7.

Despite being initially discharged, Dagny returned to the hospital the next day and ultimately passed away.
