The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for more support from development partners in the critical area of staff training and retraining, so as to enhance the smooth work of the Commission.

The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the call while receiving some computer items and accessories donated to the Gender and Inclusivity department of the Commission by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC).

The INEC boss who was represented by the Secretary of the Commission, Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, identified training as a critical focus area for the Commission, and appreciated the donors for recently facilitating the training of Gender Desk Officers of the department.

Professor Mahmood recognized the role of development partners in shaping the work and policies of the Commission and called for deeper ties which, according to him, will strengthen the important role of the Gender and Inclusivity department of the Commission in assisting the Commission to organize free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.

Earlier, the Executive Director of PLAC, Mr. Clement Nwankwo, while presenting the items said, they embarked on the project because of their belief that the Independent National Electoral Commission has been playing a vital role in Nigeria’s democracy.
