Impeached Ijebu-East LG Chairman, Wale Adedayo, Arrested by Ogun State Police

In a surprising turn of events, the impeached chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government (LG), Wale Adedayo, has been arrested at his residence in Ijebu-Ife, Ogun State.

The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday.

Accusations of Fund Diversion

Wale Adedayo made headlines when he accused the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting Local Government funds.

He alleged that the state government had been tampering with funds meant for the local governments since 2021, funds allocated by the federal government.

These allegations eventually led to his impeachment by the LG’s councilors on charges of financial misappropriation.

Arrest and Government Petition

Kafayat Adedayo, the wife of the impeached LG Chairman, confirmed his arrest. She revealed that around ten officers from the Police Command headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta came to arrest her husband.

Some officers were in uniform, while others were in plain clothes. The police officers informed her that his arrest was based on a petition filed against him by the state government.

Confirmation by Police Commissioner

When contacted, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed Wale Adedayo’s arrest.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest continue to generate significant attention and debate in the state.
