Monday, the administration of the Imo state university (IMSU) announced its withdrawal from the nearly seven-month-long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and that it has reopened the campus for academic operations.

Monday, the IMSU’s Public Relations Officer, Ralph Njoku, released a statement to reporters in Owerri with this information.

According to him, the administration determined that if they continued to delay, the school would lose so many eager students, particularly those who had not yet completed their matriculation.

However, he stated that the school had no problem with ASSU and that the decision was made to prevent actions that might disadvantage future generations.

He stated, “The administration has decided to allow academic activity at the university.” We have no problem with ASSU; we just allow academic activity on campus. Lecturers who are willing to begin lecturing will now arrive.”

He stated that the choice was made so as not to shortchange the following generation.

He stated, “Similar to the 2022 candidates, we have not yet matriculated the 2022/2023 applicants; if we continue to procrastinate, we will lose so many college-bound individuals. So, we decided it was time to seize the initiative.
