‘I’m still processing what happened’: Chris Rock breaks his silence

Chris Rock, the comedian, has made his first public appearance since getting smacked across the face by Will Smith during the Academy Awards.

We all know what occurred — Smith was irritated when Rock made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald bead, which the comic compared to the female action hero G.I Jane. To everyone’s surprise, he marched over to Rock, who was presenting an award on the Oscar stage, and whacked him.

Pinkett Smith shaved her head after she was diagnosed with Alopecia, a condition which leads to hair loss.

Chris Rock is probably not complaining because ticket sales for his comedy show have sold out, since that slap. Coincidence? Probably not. When he made his return to the comedy stage in Boston on Wednesday, 30 March 2022, the audience gave him two back-to-back standing ovations.

“I don’t have a bunch of s*** about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend. And I’m still kind of processing what happened, so at some point I’ll talk about that s***. And it’ll be serious and it’ll be funny, but right now I’m going to tell some jokes.”

Will Smith issued a public apology to Rock over the assault and admitted he was wrong. Smith says Rock’s joke about Pinkett Smith’s Alopecia went a bit too far for him.

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he wrote on Instagram.
