Kaizer Chiefs’ former winger Junior Khanye has relived the moment he became an Amakhosi first-team player.

The Daveyton-born former player said ‘he refused to go back to school.’

According to the legend, Khanye proved himself after two of the club’s retired legends Donald Khune and Doctor Khumalo put on boots for Khanye to test himself against them – and at the tender age of 17.

“That was my test game before I got promoted in that game brother,” Khanye told iDiskiTimes’ David Kappel in a recent interview.

“I’ll be honest with you, I promoted myself, Chiefs didn’t want to promote me.

“I told them I’m not going back to school anymore, and then they put me on the bus trip. At first, it wasn’t because it was first-team players,” Khanye added.

“The only other player who was there was Ntokozo Sikhakhane and they wanted to promote him because he was recommended by Farouk [Khan – former header of development and assistant coach to Ted Dumitru]. And Farouk also recommended me there.

“But playing with Doctor and Ace was something else bra. It was not long after they finished their careers in professional football,” the former winger concluded.

TOP TALENT: CHIEFS LINKED WITH THESE FOUR MIDFIELDERS

Meanwhile, the clubs’ central midfield needs attention, as urgent as the July-August 2022 transfer window.

Why? Phathutshedzo Nange is yet to sparkle, Anthony Akumu seems like the pace of the PSL is just beyond him, while the jury is still out regarding Cole Alexander.
