France ran riot against Bafana Bafana, running in 5 goals to no reply in an international friendly on Tuesday evening.

France played Ivory Coast on Friday

Having fielded a powerful starting line up against fellow French speaking nation Ivory Coast last week Friday, the strength of the team to take on Bafana Bafana came under the spotlight. Deschamps, however, proved how seriously he was taking this fixture as it also served as preparation for France who will be starting the defence of their United Nations title this June.

Named a powerful line upon

Deschamps showed his intent early on, selecting the likes of Raphael Varane, N’golo Kante, Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe. It was not expected that the French mentor would select the midfield duo that started the previous match, as Paul Pogba and Aurelien Tchouameni were both rendered doubts on the eve of the game due to a foot injury as well as fever respectively.

A player that did find himself getting the all clear to play this game though, was Mbappe who Deschamps unleashed from the very start against Bafana Bafana. Having not been able to take the field against Ivory Coast, the PSG forward was quick to remind the onlooking crowd that he is a very special talent. The speedy forward went on to score a brace on the night, including a wonderful curling strike which left South Africa’s captain Ronwen Williams with no chance. This type of performance is the reason why Broos ended up joking in his post-match press conference to the media, claiming he was angry at Deschamps for deciding to play Mbappe against his charges.

Why Broos is ‘angry’ at Deschamps

“I was a little bit angry on my colleague, that he put Mbappe today and not Friday evening (against Ivory Coast). He’s a great player and there are much better defenders who suffered against him, you can’t really neutralise him. He is always quick, he is technically very good, he can score. So if you have such a player in your team, you play with 12 and France is already so good and they play with 12 against us so you know how difficult it was for us today” said Broos to the media after the match.

Mbappe gave Bafana Bafana right back a Nyikko Mobbie a torrid time of things throughout the evening, and he will be forgiven for having nightmares caused by France.
