A hotel owner in Blackpool has sparked a mixed reaction after she decided to douse a drunk man with cold water when she found him sleeping outside her hotel.
Lisa Bell, 46, took action after discovering the intoxicated man snoozing in the front garden of her Regency Hotel.
Despite her best efforts to wake him, she was left with no choice but to escalate the situation.
Lisa’s Bold Approach to Waking the Drunk Guest
With no success in rousing the man, Lisa went for a drastic measure: filling a bucket with ice-cold water.
Her plan was to shock the man awake from his alcohol-induced slumber.
In a video captured by the hotel’s CCTV cameras, viewers can see the man lying across a chair outside, oblivious to his surroundings.
Lisa walks calmly into the garden, then empties the bucket of water over him.
The man, caught off guard, lifts his head in confusion but doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the soaking.
After a moment of disorientation, Lisa convinced him to leave the premises, and he eventually walked off without further incident.
Defending the Water Dousing
Lisa later defended her actions, explaining that she had a family with young children arriving soon and didn’t want the scene to give a negative impression of the hotel.
“He was extremely drunk, and I couldn’t wake him up,” Lisa explained.
“I had a family with young children who were due to arrive any minute.
It wouldn’t be a great first impression for them to see him there.”
She added, “He took it well, and it worked.”
Public Opinion: Mixed Reactions
While some found the situation humorous and applauded Lisa’s quick thinking, others felt differently.
One person suggested that she should have just let the man sleep, while another argued that throwing water on him could be considered assault.
One critic even shared a story of a homeless man who had slept on their street, stating they had offered him food and a warm drink instead.
On the flip side, many found the incident amusing, with some calling Lisa’s actions “brilliant” and praising her for handling the situation in a memorable way.
The debate over whether her approach was acceptable or too harsh continues to divide opinion.
