Hilaria Baldwin discusses moving her family from New York to Spain amid ongoing accent controversy

Hilaria Baldwin has hinted that she and her family might leave the United States for Spain, five years after her infamous accent controversy first made headlines.

The 41-year-old fitness influencer explained that she’s craving a change, and with her entire family living in Mallorca, a move to the Mediterranean seems like a real possibility.

A Life Between Two Worlds

Born Hillary Hayward-Thomas in Boston, Hilaria has long faced scrutiny over her Spanish persona, which emerged in 2020 when fans noticed her accent shifting between American and Spanish.

She grew up traveling frequently to Mallorca, where her parents have lived since 2011, and has spoken Spanish since childhood.

Alongside her husband Alec Baldwin, 67, Hilaria has given their seven children Spanish names: Carmen, 12; Rafael, 10; Leonardo, nine; Romeo, seven; Eduardo, five; Lucía, four; and Ilaria, three.

Currently, the family splits their time between New York City and their sprawling Hamptons mansion.

Seeking Adventure and Space

In an exclusive interview, Hilaria explained that the family is considering a move because “we need a change” and that Spain could offer their children more space.

“We have so many kids, and so I feel like we need an adventure,” she said.

“I don’t know where we’re gonna go, but we need an adventure.”

Her approach contrasts sharply with Alec’s methodical style.

“He likes to know all the parts of a potential moving destination,” she said, quoting him:

“What are we doing and how is this going to work?”

Hilaria, meanwhile, is more spontaneous: “We’re gonna see where the wind blows us… it’s going to be really liberating to try something new and different.”

Revisiting the Accent Controversy

Hilaria’s remarks come amid lingering public memory of her 2020 scandal.

That December, fans discovered that she was born in Boston, not Mallorca, and her shifting accent raised questions about her heritage.

She had previously claimed that her family lived in Mallorca and that she had spent significant time in Spain, creating a mix of cultural identities.

A notable “cucumber” moment on a televised cooking segment also fueled the controversy, with Hilaria later attributing it to a nervous brain fart.

She clarified publicly that she grew up with both American and Spanish cultures and emphasized that her accent changes were examples of code-switching, a skill she showcased on her reality show The Baldwins.

Hamptons Mansion and Family Logistics

Adding to the intrigue, Alec Baldwin has recently relisted their 10,000-square-foot Hamptons mansion for $21 million.

The seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate includes a pool, spa, and covered balconies, sitting on 10 sprawling acres in Amagansett.

The property has seen several price changes over the years, reflecting both market conditions and the couple’s personal circumstances.

A New Chapter on the Horizon

For Hilaria, moving abroad would represent both personal freedom and a chance for the children to grow in a different environment.

“I can live in a lot of different places,” she said, “but I do think our kids, like, they want to have their own rooms.

That’s harder in New York.” Whether Spain or another destination is on the horizon, it’s clear the Baldwins are thinking boldly about their next chapter.
