Found in a carrier bag in Langley Moor, Durham, the male cub was fortunately rescued by RSPCA animal rescue officer Shane Lynn, who promptly took him to a vet for a check-up.
Thankfully, the cub was given a clean bill of health and is now under the care of an RSPCA wildlife center.
Rescue and Gratitude:
Shane Lynn expressed his heartbreak over the cub’s unfortunate situation, emphasizing the significance of finding the cub and providing a safe environment for his recovery.
Although it is saddening that the cub cannot grow up in the wild with his mother, Shane expressed immense gratitude to the public for their efforts in contacting the RSPCA and rescuing the cub.

The spokesperson for the RSPCA acknowledged this trend and expressed their gratitude to individuals who reach out to them when they suspect an animal needs assistance.
Differentiating Between Rescuing and Monitoring:
However, the spokesperson also emphasized the importance of distinguishing between animals that genuinely require rescue and those that are better off left in their natural habitat.

They encouraged the public to consider monitoring young animals for as long as possible, as the parents are typically nearby.
It was reiterated that if a wild animal is believed to be orphaned, it is crucial for the public to continue observing the animal, as the mother is likely in close proximity.
Conclusion:
The rescue of the orphaned fox cub, accompanied by the heartrending note on a Greggs paper bag, highlights the compassionate nature of individuals who come forward to assist animals in need.
The RSPCA recognizes the seasonal challenges associated with baby wildlife and appreciates the public’s contributions.
However, they also stress the importance of evaluating each situation carefully to determine whether intervention is necessary or if the animals would be better off under the watchful eye of their parents.
