Harry Mount’s nomination as an Independent Member of the House of Lords Appointments Commission has been officially approved by the prime minister today.

As of September 11th, 2022, Harry Mount will officially join the House of Lords Appointments Commission (HOLAC) as an Independent Member.

After a recent open campaign, the appointment was made.

Mr. Mount works as a writer and journalist. Contributor to the Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Spectator, Daily Mail, and New York Times as well as editor of the Oldie magazine.

He was a former Middle Temple media and libel lawyer and financial analyst.
The Cabinet Office’s Lord True, a Minister of State, expressed his appreciation for the new Member’s appointment.

Notes: HOLAC’s two primary responsibilities are to suggest candidates for appointment as non-party political life peers and to thoroughly examine nominations for life peers, including those made by the UK political parties, to guarantee the highest standards of propriety.

Independent Members are appointed to non-renewable tenure of five years. On their website, HOLAC provides further information.
