…By Henry George for TDPel Media. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has leveled allegations against the Rotimi Amaechi government, accusing them of looting the Government House after their tenure expired in 2015.
The accusation was made by Wike during a valedictory service to commemorate the last State Executive Council meeting held in Port Harcourt.
Wike Highlights Improved State Condition and Previous Handover Difficulties
Speaking to his cabinet members, Governor Wike asserted that his administration has left Rivers State in a better condition compared to his predecessor.
He emphasized that when he assumed office, he encountered difficulties during the handover process, as items such as bedding, utensils, and furniture were allegedly looted from the Government House.
Borrowing a Parade Vehicle and the Extent of the Alleged Looting
Governor Wike revealed that in 2015, due to the lack of available resources, he had to borrow a parade vehicle from the then Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, for his swearing-in ceremony.
He expressed his discontent with the previous administration’s actions, claiming that even basic items like pillowcases and bed sheets were looted.
The kitchen was also reportedly looted, adding to the extent of the alleged misappropriation.
Successful Handover and Impact of Wike’s Administration
Governor Wike expressed gratitude to God, stating that despite the challenges faced, his administration will successfully hand over the government house.
He asserted that every local government in the state has witnessed the positive impact of his administration’s development initiatives.
Background on Wike and Amaechi’s Relationship
Nyesom Wike previously served as chief of staff during Rotimi Amaechi’s tenure as governor of Rivers State.
However, their relationship deteriorated before the 2015 elections when Amaechi defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Wike remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Since then, both politicians have remained at odds with each other.
