…By Larry John for TDPel Media. The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, commenced his second term in office on Monday amidst a heavy downpour that disrupted the inauguration ceremony.
Despite the rain, political associates, friends, and family who had gathered at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado Ibadan, were seen scrambling for shelter.
“Omititun 2.0” Theme Brings Large Turnout
The second-term inauguration witnessed a significant turnout, as indicated by the slogan for Makinde’s second term, “Omititun 2.0” (cold water).
Security personnel were strategically positioned at the venue to ensure the smooth conduct of the event and prevent any potential law and order issues.
Makinde’s Victory and Electoral Performance
Governor Makinde’s victory in the recent election was reiterated during the ceremony.
He emerged victorious by defeating Teslim Folarin, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as other governorship candidates in the state.
Makinde secured the majority of votes in thirty-one out of the thirty-three local governments in the state, surpassing 15 other contenders.
Results and Official Announcement
The INEC State Collation Officer, Adebayo Bamire, officially declared Makinde as the winner at the state collation center in Ibadan, the state capital.
Makinde secured a total of 563,617 votes, while Folarin received 251,230 votes.
Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party (AP) came in third with 38,757 votes.
Despite the heavy rainfall causing disruptions, Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term inauguration witnessed a substantial turnout, affirming his victory in the recent election and setting the stage for his continued leadership in Oyo State.
