In a landmark achievement for youth empowerment in Borno State, about 3,000 trainees have graduated from nine Vocational Enterprise Institutes and Centres across the state.

The Federal Government has lauded Governor Babagana Zulum for his efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The initiative, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills, forms part of a larger national agenda to boost employment and entrepreneurship.

Graduates received starter packs and ₦100,000 entrepreneurship grants to help them transition into productive economic activities.

Empowering Youth Through Practical Skills

Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa described the programme as a critical step in empowering young Nigerians.

“This initiative by Governor Zulum is a major step toward equipping our youth with practical and employable skills,” he said during the announcement.

The training model prioritises hands-on learning, with 80% practical instruction and 20% theoretical teaching, ensuring that participants gain experience relevant to industry demands.

Alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda

The programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on youth empowerment and economic inclusion through skills development.

Minister Alausa highlighted that the initiative is part of a nationwide TVET programme, which is expected to provide 250,000 training opportunities for young Nigerians, with more than 180,000 already enrolled across the country.

Connecting Skills to Employment

To bridge the gap between training and employment, the Federal Government is developing a national TVET job portal.

This platform will connect skilled graduates with industry opportunities, providing artisans access to starter packs and affordable loans to help them launch businesses.

The Ministry of Education has reiterated its commitment to expanding skills development as a strategy to drive economic growth and ensure the next generation of Nigerians can secure sustainable livelihoods.
