Four years after her death, Alex Murdaugh’s housekeeper’s remains will be unearthed.

Authorities in South Carolina say they aim to review Gloria Satterfield’s body in order to learn more about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Satterfield died in 2018 after tripping and falling at the Murdaughs’ house, where she had worked for 20 years.

The Murdaughs were told by their mother that she tripped over the family dog and died three weeks later from her injuries.

The death was never reported to the Hampton County coroner, who requested that state police look into why she was not contacted to investigate what she considered to be a “accidental death.”

However, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is still concerned, and it has revealed that a criminal inquiry into Satterfield’s death is now underway.

Hampton County, in particular, wants more investigation after the coroner found inconsistencies in what was determined to be Satterfield’s cause of death and information presented to them, as well as Alex Murdaugh’s own actions.

Law enforcement officers have finally received authorization from the Satterfield family to continue with the exhumation.

‘The decedent’s death was not reported to the Coroner at the time, nor was an autopsy performed,’ the request by the coroner to SLED stated.

‘On the death certificate, the manner of death was ruled ‘Natural,’ which is inconsistent with injuries sustained in a trip and fall accident.’
