Gina Rinehart has withdrawn her $15 million sponsorship of the Diamonds after the national netball team expressed reservations about the agreement.

Initially, the controversy was attributed to the players’ environmental worries regarding their sponsorship by Ms. Rinehart’s mining company, Hancock Prospecting.

But there is a deeper tale behind the apparent friction, which dates back nearly four decades to what Ms. Rinehart’s father, Lang Hancock, remarked about “the Aboriginal problem.”

Mr. Hancock made a terrible statement against Indigenous Australians in a 1984 television appearance, which has become a concern for the Diamonds, particularly Aboriginal squad member Donnell Wallam.

Hancock Prospecting announced in a statement that it had opted to terminate its sponsorship agreement.

Contrary to media claims, Hancock Prospecting has not demanded that its name be worn by the Australian Diamonds in the current Constellation Cup series when playing abroad, the business stated.

“Hancock and Roy Hill does not want to contribute to Netball’s discord, hence Hancock has informed the governing body that it is withdrawing from its intended cooperation effective immediately.”
