GH IJEDE MARKS Y2022 WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY – Lagos State Government

The Chief Nursing Officer of General Hospital, Ijede, Nurse Abimbola Grace Ojo has charged members of the public to continually take precautionary steps in preventing and fighting tuberculosis to eradicate the terrible disease.
Ojo, who disclosed this while speaking on the significance of the Y2022 World Tuberculosis Day, described TB as an infectious disease usually caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Bacteria (MTB) which affects the lungs, noting that it can also affect any part of the body like the bones, skin, cervix, uterus, abdomen, brain, kidney and spine among others.

While informing that symptoms of TB include a chronic cough lasting for three weeks or more, weight loss, extreme fatigue and weakness, loss of appetite, cough with blood, sweating at night among others, Nurse Ojo averred that various precautionary steps to prevent the disease include getting Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination at birth, eating nutritiously for strong immunity, maintaining good personal hygiene, avoiding exposure to people with active TB, visiting the doctor for early diagnoses and so on.
