After Tyson Fury’s second bout with Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, accusations were thrown around, claiming that Fury had violated certain regulations during the fight.
These accusations, particularly about his shorts being too high and his beard possibly being too long, have sparked controversy, but promoter Frank Warren was quick to dismiss them as baseless.
The Controversy Over Fury’s Shorts
Following Fury’s loss to Usyk by unanimous decision, some journalists questioned the height of Fury’s shorts, claiming they were in breach of International Boxing Association (IBA) rules.
According to the IBA, shorts should fit loosely and not rise higher than the knees, with the waistband needing to be raised enough to protect the groin area.
Warren, however, slammed the claims as “bulls***,” pointing out that no complaints were made by Usyk’s team regarding Fury’s shorts before or during the fight.
He clarified that the referee had approved the shorts as legal before the fight, dismissing the complaint as irrelevant.
Facial Hair Debate Also Gets Dismissed
Another point of contention before the fight was Fury’s facial hair.
The IBA has specific rules on beard length, stating that beards should not exceed 10 centimeters.
Fury’s new beard style, which was different from his usual look, was questioned by some, including Usyk’s team.
Warren, however, brushed off the complaint, calling it a “non-issue” and claiming that the accusations regarding Fury’s beard were simply “a total lot of c**p.”
No Rule Violations, According to Authorities
Despite the controversies, both the IBA and the sanctioning bodies cleared Fury of any violations before the fight.
Warren made it clear that these accusations were unfounded and that Fury had not broken any rules during his fight with Usyk.
This entire situation seems to be nothing more than an attempt to create drama in the aftermath of Fury’s second loss to Usyk, with Warren making it clear he considers the accusations to be ridiculous and irrelevant to the fight itself.
