France striker Karim Benzema ruled out of Bafana Bafana friendly

Karim Benzema, a striker for Real Madrid and France, has been ruled out of the international friendly against Bafana Bafana on March 29.

Benzema injured his calf during Real Madrid’s match against Mallorca on Monday, according to a statement provided by the French Football Federation (FFF).

As a result, the veteran striker will miss the two international friendlies against Ivory Coast and Bafana Bafana, which are scheduled for March 25 and March 29, respectively.

Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has been called up to replace Benzema who has been in the form of his life for Real Madrid this season.

Olivier Giroud is called up to the Blues to replace Karim Benzema.

Karim Benzema will not be able to participate in the next two matches of the French team against Côte d’Ivoire, in Marseille, on Friday March 25, and against South Africa, on Tuesday 29, in Lille Métropole.

Touched in the left calf on Monday against Mallorca, the Real Madrid striker underwent additional examinations which confirmed his unavailability for the match against Barcelona and the next international gathering which begins Monday at Clairefontaine.

Didier Deschamps has decided to replace him with Olivier Giroud.
