Former President Goodluck Jonathan, has asked the Chukwuma family of Nnewi to be consoled by their late mother’s hard work, and continue to take example from her industry and strong faith.
He stated this at the funeral mass for the late Mrs Martina Chukwuma at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Umudim, Nnewi.
Correspondent Daniel Ezeigwe was there and reports that the Late Mrs Martina Chukwuma, who died at the age of one hundred and one is the mother of Chief Innocent Chukwuma of Innoson Group.
Reading a tribute on behalf of former President Jonathan, his wife Dame Patience, said that as human, the sorrow of losing loved one as close as a mother, is always deep, but noted that only sincere fortitude in God can fill the vacuum.
She noted that the late Mrs Chukwuma lived for humanity, and asked the family to be comforted by the fact that their late mother was a committed and industrious matriarch who raised her children rightly.
In her condolence message, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano said that even though the deceased died a centurian, the pains of losing a mother is still evidently present.
While urging the Chukwumas to take fortitude, the governor’s wife noted that they should continue to pray for her peaceful repose, and always pray God to bless them with similar grace of old age.
Earlier in a Homily, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye, noted that a true Christian is always alive, but only resurrects onto eternal joy and stressed that only one who has lived virtuously can attain eventual grace.
Speaking on behalf of the Chukwuma family, first son of the deceased, Chief Gabriel Chukwuma, disclosed that their late mother held onto her faith till death, in defiance of all setbacks and travails.
Former Governor Peter Obi, Senator Victor Umeh, members of the State and National Assemblies, among others attended the funeral.
