The untimely demise of Prof Joseph Irukwu, a former President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has been announced.
At the age of 89, the esteemed lawyer breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by many.

The news of Prof Irukwu’s passing was conveyed in a statement released on Saturday by Prince Harrison Eze Okorie, President General of Amaokwe Item Welfare Union.
Within the statement, Prince Harrison expressed deep sorrow as he shared the unfortunate news with the public.
A Great Loss
Prof Irukwu was not only a great patron but also a beloved father, grandfather, son, and brother to the Amaokwe Item Welfare Union, the Amaba Ukwu kindred, and his immediate family.
The Union, representing the Amaokwe community, extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
They joined in mourning the departure of this exceptional individual while simultaneously offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
In this moment of grief, the Union urged all sons and daughters of Amaokwe to unite in their mourning and provide support to the grieving family through prayer.
A Remarkable Life
Prof Irukwu’s contributions spanned multiple fields.
He excelled as a lawyer, lecturer, author, and insurance expert.
Notably, he played a pivotal role as the founding managing director of the Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation.
Following this, he established the African Development Insurance Company, which was later sold to Diamond Bank.
In 1962, Irukwu earned a degree in Law and Insurance from a prestigious British university.
This accomplishment served as a strong foundation for his subsequent achievements and established his expertise in these fields.
The passing of Prof Joseph Irukwu is undoubtedly a significant loss, and his absence will be deeply felt.
