Ondo PDP Alleges Former LG Chairmen Still Collecting Salaries After Leaving Office
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has alleged that the former chairmen of the 18 local government areas in the state are still collecting salaries after they have left office.
The PDP made this claim in a statement released on Thursday, November 3, 2023.
PDP Says Former LG Chairmen Refused to Hand Over to Successors
According to the PDP, the ex-chairmen failed to hand over to the most senior council official in their respective councils after their tenure had expired in August.
The PDP also alleged that the former council bosses have refused to hand over their official vehicles despite the dissolution of the councils.
PDP Blames Governor Akeredolu’s Absence for Impunity
The PDP attributed the impunity of the former LG chairmen to the absence of the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who is still recuperating in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The PDP said that the governor’s absence has led to a vacuum in leadership, which the former LG chairmen are exploiting.
PDP Calls for Investigation, Demands Retraction of Allegation
The PDP called on the appropriate authorities to investigate the allegation of salary payment to the former LG chairmen. The party also demanded that the PDP Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, retract the allegation and apologize within 24 hours, or face legal action.
Former LG Chairmen Deny Allegation
The former LG chairmen have denied the allegation of salary payment, calling it a “lie from the pit of hell.” They said that they have not received any financial engagement from their councils since they left office on August 30, 2023.
