A former Hollywood actor, Jason Hoganson, has been found after a dramatic search by Northumbria Police.
The 53-year-old, who had been on the run, was initially released under controversial early-release measures introduced by Keir Starmer’s government.
Hoganson, known for his role in the 1980s cult film Empire State, was freed after serving just 19 days of an 18-month sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
His release was part of a broader initiative aimed at easing prison overcrowding, which saw 1,700 prisoners let out on the same day.
Rearrested Within Days
However, Hoganson didn’t stay out of trouble for long.
Just two days after his release, he was rearrested on charges of breaching a restraining order and assault.
Appearing at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court in September, Hoganson pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He was granted conditional bail, but his freedom was short-lived.
The former actor reportedly violated his licence conditions, prompting a renewed search.
Northumbria Police made it clear that Hoganson was “actively evading” arrest, and a public appeal was made for information regarding his whereabouts.

Prosecutor Amy Levitt described how Hoganson attacked the woman, who had a restraining order in place, slapping and pushing her until she fell to the ground.
The violent episode lasted for several minutes and included physical abuse while the victim lay helpless.
Hoganson had previously been convicted of battery and criminal damage in relation to the same victim in 2022.
Mental Health and Decline
Defense attorney Ian Crook spoke of Hoganson’s struggles with mental health, explaining that the pressures of fame had led him down a path of addiction.
He acknowledged Hoganson’s role in Empire State as a significant career moment but pointed out that the actor’s personal difficulties prevented him from managing the pressures of stardom.
Hoganson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the assault and breach of the restraining order.
Although he had already served part of his sentence while on remand, he now faces further legal consequences for his actions.
