After terrorising the Joburg CBD, five Hillbrow wanted suspects, including a security guard, have been nabbed.

Speaking on the arrest, Xolani Fihla of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) provided more details.

Xolani Fihla said: “Five male suspects alleged to be involved in multiple robberies around the Johannesburg Inner City were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and unlawful possession of state property in Hillbrow.”

While conducting Buya Mthetho undercover crime prevention patrols at the Wanderers Taxi Rank on July 27, 2022, cops learned about suspects connected to a number of robberies in the Johannesburg Central Business District.

“Upon arrival at the given location in Hillbrow, a security guard was found at the premises. He led the officers to the flat and they approached the identified room where the suspects reside,” Fihla explained.

He added that the room was inspected and two suspects were found.

“Several cellphones, wallets, ID documents, military uniform and brand new shoes which the suspects could not account for were recovered by the officers.

Xolani Fihla said: “The suspects together with the security guard were arrested as it was found that both males and the security lived together.”

The recovered items from the suspects.

He continued by saying that the cops were then taken to the building’s basement, where two other male accomplices resided.

“On arrival, officers found the two male suspects and searched the room. More cellphones, wallets, ID documents and registration plates were recovered.

“When verified one of the registration plates tested positive on a Blue Renault which was hijacked in Chatsworth. Both those male suspects were also arrested.

“All the suspects were detained at Hillbrow SAPS. When profiled it was found that the suspects have previous and pending cases ranging from robbery, murder, hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms,” Fihla concluded.
