FIFA Arab Cup: Qatar downs Egypt to claim third spot

Hosts Qatar claimed third spot at the FIFA Arab Cup Saturday.

They beat Egypt 5-4 on penalties, after 120-minutes of a keenly contested match.

At first it appeared the Pharaohs would claim the bronze as Qatari playmaker Hassan Alhaydos missed the first spot kick.

But young keeper Meshaal Barsham two brilliant saves to ensure the 2022 World Cup hosts ended 2021 on a very positive note.

Qatar has played several matches against diverse opposition to get in shape for the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East.

As for Egypt, the FIFA Arab cup is a perfect tune-up to prepare for the 2022 AFCON to be held next month in Cameroun.

But most importantly, the 7-times AFCON champions used this tournament test their squad depth as they also via for a place at the World Cup in the same Qatar.
