Kash Patel, the FBI director, is under fire after reports revealed he assigned a SWAT-level security detail to his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins.
Critics say the move is a misuse of government resources, raising questions about fairness and protocol.
Jet-Setting Romance Draws Attention
Patel, 45, and Wilkins, 27, have made headlines before for using a government jet to attend her performances.
Now it’s emerged that the FBI director has deployed a highly trained team to protect Wilkins, despite the fact that partners of federal officials rarely receive such intensive security.
According to the FBI, the singer has received threats linked to her relationship with Patel.
“Ms. Wilkins is receiving a protective detail because she has faced hundreds of credible death threats related to her relationship with Director Patel, whom she has been dating for three years,” a spokesperson said.
Elite Agents Assigned in Nashville
Reports say Wilkins is guarded by FBI agents typically associated with the Nashville office’s SWAT team.
She spends much of her time in Nashville for work, while Patel splits time between Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas.
Some former agency members argue that this level of protection is excessive.
Helen Wray, wife of former FBI Director Christopher Wray, said she only received a security detail when traveling with her husband.
Others worry these agents might be diverted from more pressing cases.
“There is no legitimate justification for this.
This is a clear abuse of position and misuse of government resources,” former senior FBI agent Christopher O’Leary told MS Now.
Social Media Threats Fuel Protection
Wilkins herself has shared examples of the abuse she faces online, posting screenshots of hostile messages on social media.
Some comments even suggest violence, highlighting the risks she may face in the public eye.
Meanwhile, the White House has voiced support for Patel without directly commenting on the security measures for Wilkins.
“FBI Director Patel is restoring integrity to the FBI and doing an excellent job implementing the President’s agenda,” spokesperson Abigail Jackson told the Daily Mail.
Legal Battles Over Conspiracy Claims
Beyond security concerns, Wilkins has also filed lawsuits against right-wing commentators who claimed she is a Mossad agent or a “honeypot” working to manipulate Patel.
Her lawyers assert that she is a U.S.-born citizen, Christian, and unaffiliated with any foreign intelligence agency.
The country singer has endured years of conspiracy theories fueled by her relationship with Patel, whose 19-year age difference with Wilkins has also drawn speculation online.
She has even had to block the word “honeypot” on social media to avoid harassment.
Patel Defends Relationship and Actions
Patel has publicly defended Wilkins, calling the attacks “disgustingly baseless” and praising her patriotism and talent.
He emphasized that critics jeopardize their safety when targeting her and described his commitment to protecting his family as unwavering.
The couple continues to attract attention, from jet-setting appearances to Wilkins’ performances, but Patel maintains that he will prioritize her safety and well-being amid the scrutiny.
