This morning, on April 17, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Zwide, a township in Gqeberha, when a motorist lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and injuring a child.

The incident left the community in shock as the vehicle not only hit the pedestrian but also plowed into a school fence.

Details of the Incident

The crash took place around 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of the R75 and Johnson Road, near Khwezi Lomso Comprehensive School.

The driver of a maroon Renault Kwid, who was traveling from KwaDwesi towards Algoa Park, reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

In the chaos, the car overturned, struck a man who was walking along the road, and then crashed through the fence of the school.

Tragically, the pedestrian, a man believed to be between 55 and 60 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Injuries and Investigation

While the man lost his life, a nine-year-old boy and the driver of the Renault Kwid sustained minor injuries.

The police are investigating the cause of the crash, and Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg from the local police force shared more details about the situation.

The identity of the deceased pedestrian has yet to be confirmed, though police have described him as wearing blue overalls, a blue shirt, and a khaki jacket, paired with black safety boots.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and authorities are appealing to the public for any help in identifying the man.

As the investigation unfolds, SAPS in Kwazakele has urged anyone who might have information to come forward.
