Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Troubled Past and Release

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri on December 28, 2023.

She was originally convicted for conspiring with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder her mother in June 2015.

The case shed light on the abusive and controlling behavior of Dee Dee, who suffered from Munchausen-by-proxy syndrome.

Her mother’s insistence on fabricated illnesses led to Gypsy Rose’s imprisonment, malnourishment, and participation in a plot to kill Dee Dee.

Dee Dee’s Abuse and Tragic End

Dee Dee Blanchard subjected her daughter to various forms of abuse, including unnecessary medical treatments, shaved her head to simulate illness, and fabricated her birth certificate.

Gypsy Rose eventually found solace in her online connection with Godejohn, leading to a plan to free herself from her mother’s coercive control.

Tragically, Dee Dee Blanchard met her demise on June 14, 2015, when Godejohn stabbed her 17 times in her sleep.

Godejohn is currently serving a life sentence without parole.
