Fancy living in Spain? New visa to make three-year stays a reality

Spain is a country that conjures up images of vibrance and beauty, in the minds of most. The country is highly favoured by many for its exciting culture, unique architecture, tasty cuisine, hospitable climate and pristine beaches.
If you have ever dreamt of spending more than just a holiday in Spain here is your chance.

SPAIN SEEKS REMOTE WORKERS

Most South Africans are able to visit Spain only as tourists provided they obtain Schengen visas prior to travelling there.
According to EuroNews Spain is planning to introduce a digital nomad visa that will allow you to stay and work for a maximum of 12 months. This could be extended up to two times.
The new Spanish law is part of the country’s recent Startup Act.  Startups may also be given tax incentives to encourage young entrepreneurs to make a move somewhere new.

REPOPULATING RURAL AREAS

A lack of job opportunities in rural Spain has left many small towns and villages with dwindling populations but these destinations, in particular, are more than ready to welcome remote workers.
Whether people stay for a short break or make these places their temporary homes, it is hoped that an influx of people working from home will help to revitalise communities.

HELP WITH SETTLING IN

Individuals who decide to sign up for the programme will be assisted and welcomed into the local community instead of having to find their feet on their own. Rather than having to find your own way, the programme offers remote workers a host who will welcome them to the town or village they will be calling home. The host will connect them with life in the community.
You can find an interactive map of the locations that seek digital nomads on the network’s website.
